Bells on bob tails!

Dashing through the snow??

In 1857 the holiday song "The One Horse Open Sleigh" song was published and copyrighted.  That song eventually became known as "Jingle Bells"

Written by James Pierpont, who served as the Musical Director, and Organist at the Unitarian church here in Savannah beginning in 1856, it is argued James wrote the song while here in Savannah.  These lines were written recalling fond memories of a winter sleigh ride he took while attending boarding school in New Hampshire, in 1832.

Though we can't definitively claim the song was written here, James Pierpont, and the song Jingle Bells has become a part of Savannah's heritage.

Inspired by James and his reference to "bob tails", we've created a fun holiday carriage ride to jingle our way throughout the City.  Though there is no historical narrative provided for this tour, your guide will cheerfully lead you through the streets of Savannah to take in some of the holiday sites.  This 45 minute tour will include highlights such as the City Christmas Tree on Bull Street, and the "Jingle Bells" church, the Unitarian church where James served, on Troupe Square.

Special treats on this tour will include:

*sleigh bells on the horses

*a festively decorated carriage for fun photo ops

*interactive discussion with your guide and fellow passengers

*holiday decorations throughout town

*blankets to snuggle under on chilly nights

*perhaps join your new friends in a rousing rendition of Jingle Bells on your way!

We encourage you to bring hot cocoa, hot toddies, egg nog, whatever  will keep you toasty on tour.  Strike up a little caroling on board, let loose and get in the holiday spirit!  Oh!  What fun!!
